OSHA Enhances Penalties for Violations in 2024

Written by Adam Crowell | Jan 17, 2024

January 17, 2024.  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has enhanced the penalties for OSHA violations in 2024.

On January 8, 2024, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced increased penalties, which were adjusted for inflation.  With the recent increases, the maximum penalties are:

  • $16,131 per Serious violation
  • $16,131 per Other-Than-Serious violation
  • $16,131 per Posting Requirements violation
  • $161,323 per Willful or Repeated Violation
  • $16,131 per day for each Failure to Abate a violation

The increase in penalties represents a 3.241% increase from the maximum penalties in 2023.

"Your business never wants to be cited by OSHA," says Adam Crowell, V.P. of Legal and Corporate Development at KPA + ComplyNet.  "Standard fines can be very expensive, and if OSHA finds the same conditions exist years after the fact, they can hit you with a Willful or Repeated violation of up to $161,323," continued Crowell.  "This is one of the many reasons why it is imperative to have a proactive environmental, health, and safety program to identify and resolves issues before they become bigger issues," concluded Crowell.
